Narada Bhakti Sutras - Day 5

The means to divine love

  • Love and pain are twins.
  • Birth begins with pain; only after pain there comes the second experience, i.e. of love.
  • Logic doesn't know the melody or rhythm and many times logic is misleading.
  • Heart knows melody and never misleads.
  • The means to divine love are effortless and melodious.
  • First mean: first mean is to go inwards
    • Mind (in Hindi: 'man') signifies out wards
    • Surrender (in Hindi: 'Nam') signifies going inwards

Therefore to surrender we need to come inside.

  • Senses have limited capacity but desires are unlimited. So knowing or being aware of that all senses have limited capacity to consume/enjoy, will help you return to the center.
  • Feverishness can't let you being what you are i.e. love. So what to do to avoid feverishness: retire from outside i.e. from things, from people and come 'inwards'. Withdraw attention from outer world & be silent. Take a step back and watch your senses. While doing something: consciously do and watch the actions.
  • To open the inside lid, you need to close yourself from outside.
  • Second mean: uninterrupted bhajan ('bhajan' here means to share - to share what divine is). Uninterrupted sharing, uninterrupted connection.
  • Complete sharing: don’t keep any corner away from divinity otherwise that part may become the reason of fall. Therefore, share everything with divinity and let divinity permeate to every corner of yourself.
  • Third mean: seeing sacred in all the actions and objects
  • In your day today activities see that you are doing this for divine.
  • Appreciate and honour everything - animate or inanimate. Just honour & appreciate. This is 'puja'.
  • You can be blunt but that need not to be from bitter feelings; that has to be just for particular purpose or person out of love.
  • Praising positive qualities in others uplift yourself; uplift the same quality in you.
  • How can someone who knows everything i.e. God, will test you?
  • Pray to God:
    • Let my ears listen only auspicious things
    • Let my eyes watch only auspicious things
    • Let me speak what is auspicious & which uplifts others
    • Let me do the service to the God and to all the souls
  • Less evolved people indulge in fault picking. When you indulge in fault finding, you disconnect from God.
