Patanjali Yoga Sutra: Day 04

DAY 04: WHO IS GOD?

  1. You can achieve the highest state of consciousness by surrendering to GOD.
  2. Who is lord? What is lordship? What is that rules the world?
  3. Love rules the world; the center core of this existence is love.
  4. The core of existence is responsible for this love and there lies the lordship.
  5. Love is inbuilt in the creation.
  6. What is the state of consciousness? Who is HE?
  7. A consciousness that is free from following four things:
    1. Kalesha (sufferings):
     Five sufferings are:
    • Ignorance (Avidya): This is giving importance to something that is not worth that importance. Imagining that something is joyful which exactly in not joyful at all. Something that is changing, assuming that to be permanent.
    • Me - I (Ashmita): This second cause of suffering. Hollow and empty meditation is a very beautiful way to save our self from this misery. Ashmita eats us from within. Holding on to something that is changing (everything is changing..:)).
    • Craving (Raga): Strong craving
    • Aversion (Dvesha)
    • Fear (Avidvesha)
    • The consciousness deep down us is free from above things. There is no suffering and misery there. These suffering are just on circumference.
    • When above five kaleshas are removed God is manifested in us.
    1. Karmas (Four types of karmas):
      1. Bring merits
      2. Bring demerits
      3. Bring both merit and demerit
      4. Karma that is devoid of merit and demerit; there are certain action without merit or demerit.
    • The core of existence is free from all above types of karma.
    1. Vipaka (fruit of action) is not there in that consciousness.
    2. Aashya (talents/desires/impressions of actions)
  8. That consciousness which is free from above four things is lord. This consciousness is in every being's heart.
  9. What ever action happens around you, it doesn't you. The very core is virgin.
  10. When boundary collapses to the center (When you worship your core) is lordship. Worship is an act of dissolving. Dissolving the mind into its being. A mind that is free from above four things dissolves in self.
  11. God, guru and self is one and same thing. Guru is nothing but core of your existence.
  12. In this state of consciousness is the seed of all knowingness/knowledge. This knowledge is already present, we just need to open ourselves to that consciousness.
  13. How to address the lord: This consciousness is master to those who have lived before. And we can address that consciousness with the sound of 'OM'. 'OM' is the nearest sound that can be used to address this totality of consciousness. When we say 'OM' we remember that totality. That unconditional love. 'OM' brings the totality of consciousness and mind.
  14. When the feeling of totality of existence come to us, a special consciousness dawns - the 'witness consciousness' comes to us. Amazing clarity comes and all the obstacles are removed.
  15. Obstacles in the path of yoga:
    1. Vayadhi (illness in the body)
    2. Sathyana (illness in the mind) - inability to comprehend; mentally retard-ness
    3. Sanshya (doubt)
      1. Doubt about one self
      2. Doubt about technique
      3. Doubt about the teacher/the master
    1. Pramada (carelessness) doing something that is wrong even knowing that it is bad or not doing something that you know is good and still not doing it
    2. Aalasya (laziness)
    3. Avirati - being engaged in objects of any one of the senses and not coming out of it. Being feverish of such things all the time.
    4. Bhranti darshna (yog maya / hallucination) - e.g. imagining that you are super star and then caught in that. Galloping on the horses of false voice.
    5. Alavdha bhumitatva: when you feel complete stuck; non attainment of any state of peace.
    6. Anavastitatva (instability): Not getting stabilize in any state; feeling bliss and then finding that it has vanished.
  16. Symptoms or signs of above mentioned obstacles:
    • Dukh (sadness)
    • Dourmansya (bitterness)
    • Angmayajayatva (lack of coordination in the body; body not listening to you)
    • Svash-prasvasha (irregular breathing)
    come with these obstacles.
